Reflection

After completing one year of nursing, I clearly understand the heavy and honest responsibility of nurses. For example as a nurse always gives comfort care to patients, when a patient is in pain. The nurse should realise, which medication should be provided to minimize the pain. The responsibilities for a nurse is providing the best care and equally respect to all patients (ANMC, 2006, 2008a 2008b). Therefore, I have realised that medical staff especially nurses, have to frequently update and practice the newest medical achievements. In accordance with this, I will read nursing journals to update my nursing knowledge. A number of accidents, especially falls take place in the Aged Care Facility where I work. Although I am able to assist the injured resident, but I feel that I lack of knowledge on fall prevention in elderly people. Therefore, I will attempt to gain more knowledge in this area. Besides, I understand that nurse must use reliable information sources for nursing practice and for enhancing their knowledge. Moreover, I realised that while doing nursing care it is always important to take permission from patients because of cultural reasons. When I went to hospital for placement, I realised during work that I lack of knowledge about culture. Thus I need to know and learn more regarding different cultures.
